Concours Original Class
« on: July 15, 2011, 12:44:25 pm »
Hi All,

I have been reading posts on here, the local judging guidelines and some at http://www.concoursmustang.com/ trying to get my head around this a little better.

I have a clean original 66 coupe, with no modifications. It is restored but put back original parts mostly. Hence it is clearly not in the condition that it left the dealership and was not a $20k paint job. Basically it is a $40k car and not a $60k one.

I am trying to determine if it is appropriate to put these type of cars up for judging in the concours original category.  I would like to understand the deductions I would get and then work to improve on these.

cheers

Dale

Hey, I dont know a great deal about concourse judging, but I do know that moca has a completely different view than the us on what is concourse and what is not.

Better off using just the moca guidelines than anything else, as it has more room to move. Replacing parts with available parts in that model year is acceptable here, however some judges in the us would ping you for not having the factory fitted single exhaust that is listed on your marti report...

I am going down a similar route to you as far as replacing everything with original parts, but I know I am not going to dish out a million bucks to put the correct finishes on every little thing, so what category does that fit into?

BTW this is local rule book I referred to;

http://www.mustang.org.au/docs/Rule%20Book%202010.pdf

It has a lot of good content on points deductions for the coded stuff, but a little hard to guage on quality. For instance evidence of wear on pedals, or older rubbers, or pitting in chrome. This is the stuff I was hoping for some practical feedback on from those who have been scored.

Dale these are all question you ought to be asking your local club judges etc, I am sure they will offer all the help you need...........Concourse is a tough frustrating path to travel, I have done it, got Bronze for my trouble, but it isn't for everyone.......most people will think your crazy, why would you want a stock car etc............But those folk with the Original condition cars are at least preserving the Marque. Good on you and all those similar to you who do. My Hertz clone will be no different it will be as exact as I can make it but there are no Concours class for clones or replicas only display judged.

I found this forum to be helpfull.....cheers.

Use the guide above from the Australian Mustang Club site and try to get hold of someone who has a car of your year that has been judged in original class at the last concours.
See if they would let you have a look at their results, that will give you more of an idea what will be looked at.
The classes you can enter would be display, judged display or original, IMO you should enter original class and see how you go.
There are some cars that would do quite well in original class but only enter in the display classes for various reasons.

If you happen to win display class however, you are automatically elevated to Original class

Dale

I started out in display class several years ago now, however I found that it didn't quite provide myself with the information I required to return the vehicle back to the way it rolled out of the factory/dealership.

The MOCA Australia Concours judging rules & guidelines I found useful, so I gave concours judging ago.  In the preparing the vehicle, I asked a few of the concours expirenced members for some tips & hints on how I could improve my vehicle and what the judges look for in the build up to my first State Concours event.

I am more than happy for you to give me call and provide as much information/ help as possible.

Please note within Concours judging the scores are given on the Condition and Orginality of the complete vehicle

Herman
Have now converted the other half into doing some of the Concours washin, cleaning & polishing stuff!!!!!!!!
