Need help importing?
« on: May 19, 2011, 05:31:24 am »
Hey guys,

I just joined this forum after doing a lot of research. Lately I've been contemplating exporting cars. As of right now, I work at a Ford dealership in Las Vegas. It would be VERY easy for me to get you any cars (brand new or not) that you would want.

I just need to know whether there would be any interest in this at all. I'm sure its near impossible to work a deal with a dealership without spending a ton of time coming out here.

If anyone on here could point me in the right direction or give any advice. I work in the service department and definitely know my cars.

Thanks,
Dylan

In New South Wales and I assume other states all vehicles less than 30 years old must be right hand drive. There are a few exeptions for special vehicles where left hand drive is beneficial but all new cars must be right hand drive. This then limits any vehicles that you could supply to those that are pre 1981.

 Cheers Phoenix.

I definitely noticed all that, but isn't there quite a few places that do the conversions regularly that RTA approves?

I have easy access to any Shelby GT500 people would want. Plus all sorts of Corvette's, special edition Mustangs etc.

I'm more so wondering if there's a market for it.

Yes, but the cost of the conversion is quite often more then the cost of the car.

I've been looking at prices quite a bit and its looking to me like brand new GT500's are going for about 160,000 AUD. Which is even more USD. The conversions cost about 20,000 AUD right? Do you know of any reputable shops?

Depending on what it is, its usually around 200 USD. Which would include checking oil, coolant, brake fluid, differential fluid, transmission fluid, washer fluid, brake fluid, transfer case fluid, computer scan for codes, inspect for damage from a previous accident, ball joints, U joints, bushings, bearings, exhaust system for leaks, brake pads, parking brake, A/C & heater working, etc.

I was looking into converting some other cars and they were all around the $36000 and up. Pretty shit considering the car was only going to cost me mid teens to purchase.

Not sure of a Mustang conversion but I would have no doubt it would be that or more.

Ouch....Think anyone would be interested in buying a 2012 GT500 LHD minus the cost of the conversion?

I know of a 2010 Shelby convertible for $145k converted and complied, and it hasn't sold quickly.

Are there more people looking for classic mustangs that can be imported as a LHD?
