My new 69 Mach 1 with pics
« on: May 01, 2011, 08:18:33 pm »
Just picked up my new 1969 Mach 1 and am stoked with it! Wish Icould  load the photos. Basically it is a Black Jade S code (rarest of the 69 Mach 1's) with factory auto, air and power steer. This car was purchased new in October 1968 by Frank Lovanic in California where he kept it until he passed away in 2001, then it was passed on to his brother who kept it until 2009 when he sold it to the guy I bought it off. car is an original black plate California car that had the same plate on it for 40 years!! I also got the original build sheet, invoice as well as registration papers from 1968 and the original black plates!!! Love its history almost as much as the car itself. Needs the most basic of work on it and has stunning looks with an interior that borders on perfect. Best of all it was a fantastic price (under $45k).Took her for a good run today and she is tight, no rattles or shakes. Happier than a pig in mud!!

A big thanks to Norm for the loan of his car trailer to help me get her home, as well as my better half for putting up with my obsession..

I wish you could load pics too, I want to see!!:smile01:

Black Jade is beautiful, you're right about them not being easy to find. I didn't see many when I was on the hunt for my 69 Mach 1.

Mine arrives this Tuesday fingers crossed so I can understand your excitement!

Thanks CPU guy! I have sent the pics.:fantastic:

Does anyone know where I can get a correct air cleaner assembly for the 390? I believe that it should have a darker blue base than the one on it with a chrome top. I have checked out California Mustangs and Scott Drake with no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks for the positive comments. Feels good to have a 69 Mach 1 again (sorry to all those 66 Vert lovers but my convertible just doesn't give me the same buzz...)

Jade often looks different due to what light the picture was taken in.

Nice looking car boss69hogg. Going on the "car sales' logo in the back of the pictures, did you buy it here in OZ?

Yes, purchase it from Oz. Was seriously considering one from the States but with extended import approval delays as well as actual import delays due to strength of Aussie dollar and increased number of people doing the same thing...

Final straw was the fact that I have previously bought two convertibles from the States and I was very disappointed with the condition of these cars that had "just been restored" (and yes they were both inspected). The last one was inspected by a company that uses this site extensively only to find that they used a Pokemon quilt instead of seat foam, required $1,300 to replace all the busted front suspension, lower control arms etc, a leaking fuel pump, water pump, leaks from the transmission and rear diff PLUS MORE!!!!

At least I could look at this one myself and knew exactly what I was getting.

I think you've done very well for the money in Aus boss69hogg. Mine is creeping up to the 40k mark, it''ll be up near that once it's on the road. And that is including my cost of the trip to fly and inspect it.

It has been a long wait though on it getting here. Only 2 more sleeps now :smile01:but after this long I've just gotten over it and know it'll be here eventually.

Hi Ash, I wish I had the time to go to the US - I would have preferred that. You have done exceptionally well getting a genuine R Code for that sort of money. Been following your 'journey' and felt for you when you had to leave her behind.

Good luck with the pick up. Look forward to seeing pics of it on the road.

I'm extremely happy with the R-code for what I paid. It has its flaws but I'm still extremely happy for the money. I even went and got a Marti report before I left to make sure it really was an R-code.

I've actually done a bit more of a write-up on my trip, I might go and paste it in the thread.

I'm still waiting on the confirmation it got the all clear from customs but fingers crossed it's all good!

Cheers:thumb:

Oh cheers! It was a short trip but we didn't stop so it was exhausting. I'm glad I made it over there but I would feel confident now buying another car from this side of the world. I learnt a lot and have used an importer with a great name and he has proven that to me.

Congrats on the new purchase, very nice indeed.  Another one to the Mach 1 owners club.
