Sorry,  i was'nt clear. When i go to check the history of a car on a site, they demand a 17 digit code......as we know mustangs are 11. So any site i use to check the Vin rejects it as it is only 11 digits, and these days its 17.....is there anywhere i can check a 66?

any chance of getting a copy of the rego papers and use the number they have?

I'm assuming you are trying to do a revs check or similar for a car already registered in Australia.

Kitreid, as usual for your posts, you do leave a little bit of detail out ... which makes it somewhat of a lucky dip on the responses that people give you.  All of them are good replies but we do not know if itis relevant to what you are actually asking?
:soap:

Anyways, try this post for some hints on how to use your VIN to get some detail on your Mustang:

Hope this helps.

Let me slow it down, our put explain in a way even u may understand. To do a check of ownership on a car u need a 'Vin number" which is 17 digits, a Mustang has 11. My question is, how and where can I check a 'classic cars' Vin?...Yes always people on here are very helpful, which is why I come here for advice. If you don't like post's, don't read them ....

Simple, follow the advice of the sites and use the chassis number.

www.revs.nsw.gov.au
For a Motor Vehicle:
(includes trailers, caravans, motorbikes)
1. Registration Number   (if vehicle is registered)
2. VIN or chassis number
3. Engine number

Another simple answer that may help is that a "Classic" Vin number doesnt work and never will as the system in Australia only accepts 17 digits.

Is that the button on ebay, and other sites that say check this cars history? I would forget that. There are authorities to see if the car is stolen if you are looking at purchasing. Otherwise 66's are pretty much what you see is what you get. No marti reports for them. You could look for a build sheet, but depending on the factory it came from, it may or may not have left 1 in the car.

only info you can find on a 66 is the door plate. look for a car that matches the actual vin number, with the vin on the door tag and thats about as matching numbers as you will find!

as far as history goes, seeing the car and talking with the owner should give you some idea. I recommend seeing a car before purchasing. Too many projects being sold due to cars not meeting expectations these days!

Ahhh, your first one (5 February at 21:00:) asks how to check a VIN (in the heading).

The posting on 5 February at 23:52:

"When i go to check the history of a car on a site, they demand a 17 digit code"

The posting on 6 February at 10:46:

"To do a check of ownership on a car ... My question is, how and where can I check a 'classic cars' Vin?..."

You make it hard for others to help you when you dribble your question out over three separate posts.  And yes, you are dead right, we do not have to read the posts if we don't want to  ... but most on here do try and help others, even when they dribble ....

:bats:

Moe, as always, points you in the right direction to the answer you seek - just read and follow the RTA advice fully

You can try here. http://www.decodethis.com/Home/tabid/36/Default.aspx but this will only give you a description of the vehicle.
Fuel......., On I Burn,
Fuel is pumping engines,
Burning hard, loose & clean

And I burn,
Churning my direction,
Quench my thirst with Gasoline..

(Metallica).....(Fuel).

Also, to check a mustang:
Take it to a mechanic to advise on the mechanical history and current status;
Take it to a panel beater to advise on the body history and current status;
Take a look under the hood to check the vin;
Enter the vin on a decoder site to confirm what the vin corresponds to;
to check if the vehicle is encumbered, etc in Australia, check places like REVS;
To check if it is too modified to bring into Australia, check with DOTARS;
To check if the guy selling it is the owner, check the papers...

I'm still confused...  what was it you wanted to check and for what purpose. Is it in Australia or in the US?
