Thats Perth for ya! :smile01:

Yep, Mustang ownership (even at gunpoint) is taken very seriously over here.

that system sounds great but got a couple of questions for you. Does yours charge off the car battery and if it didnt how long do you think the battery would last as mine has a battery kill switch that I turn off when the car is parked??
Also the External Antenna can you see it as mine is clean lines with an internal radio antenna?

AllThingsRunning
You need an explosive device under the drivers seat, then if the car is stolen by by bad guy. lol

This what he had fitted to the car

Are there any good reasonably cheap GPS systems without the ongoing payments?

s

I have one of these fitted to my car.
http://savcbf.com.au/gps-trackers-and-alarms/gps-tracking-device-car-boat-truck-van-fleet-1.html
They work by installing a mobile SIM card. I have a Vodafone SIM that has $20 credit and a 365 day expiry. It works very well.

"Data" sim card is only meant to cost $5 per month??

It sends SMS so a pure data SIM is not going to work but $20 for 12 months is better than $5 per month, I think!

I don't have mine completely installed as yet. I'll check into the backup battery life. (good point) The aerials are stick on pads  that fit onto the rear window internally, top corners, nothing on the outside.

So if the thief heads straight for the aerials and rips them off you're pretty much in the lurch?

He would have to know where they are & what they are for. How many intelligent car thieves do you think are out there?:smile01:  The pads are black single sided stick on only 50 x 15mm hard to make out what they are up against screen rubber!. How else do you think GPS systems get their signal to a satelite. They can't be fitted under metal (signal strength??):kick:

Well that system sounds pretty good then. I will have to have a good think now and probably end up buying one.

I have mine installed and it works great. It keeps track of it's current position on a constant basis and if someone disconnects the antenna it immediately sends and SMS saying it was tampered with. The backup battery only lasts about a day but it will also send an SMS if it is disconnected from teh car battery. The down side is it does have a fairly high current draw so you need to start the car regularly and recharge the battery.

spooky, you can edit your last two posts if you're worried about it,

there place in Ingleburn NSW that sell these units, but pricey compared to the ebay offerings

If you are worried about battery getting run down from lack of use look into a solar battery charger. Most will cut off when fully charged so as not to overcharge & cook the battery. They are 'trickle chargers'

I've got a trickle charger installed to mine in the garage as I only drive it every now and then. Keeps the battery charged nicely.
