Been toying with this idea for a while now. I would like to bring my 66 up to the noughties with a third brake light. Any thoughts or ideas because I don't get out to the show circuit much and see other cars. Was thinking about an aftermarket light behind the centre catwalk held down by industrial strength double sided tape, and filing a small hole in the trim for the wires to go thru.
Money is made to be spent.

Ron, I like the idea of more visibility, but not sure what you refer to as the "catwalk". I assume its the panel between the trunk lid and the stainless strip? If so its a good height.

I had considered using a high intensity LED in place of the trunk lock, and activating the trunk via a remote. But thought this may be more pain than gain due to the limited light size.

Have you seen Marshalls setup, very discrete until lit up, and then you cant miss it. But it does require mods to the panel.

Arrrggghh I can't believe I know just a little bit more than the infamous Nas. I'm sure the catwalk is the 3 sections ( middle and 2 outers)in which you tack the rear of the convertible top to,you know... the fibrous or wood section sandwiched between the 2 metal bits.

Ron, I dont think you realise the depth of my ignorance, not long ago Jas had to point out I couldnt even spell convertible. :+  He was right too.:;]

Thanks for the description, but I must say I have never heard the term used with reference to a Mustang. If they are the same bits the manual refers to them as (wait for it), side tacking strip and rear tacking strip, very imaginative these Ford folk. Am I on the right track yet?

Just had a browse thru Mustang Auto Parts Bris online catalouge. They refer them as catwalk moulds, chrome outers, costing expensive and a stainless steel centre, expensive too, so I'm assumming they're the trims. Phil , a little help!

Thats sounds like the moulds (trims), the centre is stainless and the end peices are die cast.

So were you looking to attach the light to the trim?

The Panel between the deck lid and snap mouldings is normally called a Deck filler panel.

It is also quite commonly called a Catwalk, or a lower window filler.

IT all depends on what side you dress on, and whether your an educated wafer, or just a dumb tradie:a

Sorry about all this sidetracking Ron, and thanks everyone for the input on terminology. But anyone got anything to say on the original question?
Ron, would your original plan allow for roof storage? or is this not an issue. :2

Now that I (we) know the correct terms, my original and still same thoughts are to put the brake light on the catwalk panel.Even though there's only about 2 inches left thanks to the trim, it may have to be a slim job and the wires going thru a small notch in the trim. With the top up or down or the boot on it wouldn't interfere. When you said "Marshalls" is that a brand name or some guys car?

Marshall is a guy in QLD who built the nicest 66 convertible I've had the pleasure to see.

If you don't mind putting GM parts on your Mustang, you could try a Calibra high mount brake light.
Only problem is it's 13"x4" so you would either have to modify the housing or mount it on the boot lid near the catwalk.
