Just a quick update from Team chopmgw.
Car totally stripped now.
Preview before sand blasting.

Picked up the car today. Big thanks to Rocket for use of the trailer. Much appreciated.
Tried to get it back before the rain came but bloody Adelaide weather :banghead:

Starting to come together now.
Next job is to get the body nice and tidy and maybe a lick of paint underneath.

Doesnt appear to have any other rust or body issues now that the roof is done.
I cant wait to actually drive it one day.
Dont want it to be years down the track . I want it now!
Since Ive had this car, i keep seeing other stangs on the road and Im so jealous.

Sure am.
Something like this colour.
http://mustangattitude.com/cgi-bin/showcar.cgi?type=&pic=/1968/1968_00016_02

Just have to check with the rego people first.
It was a promotional colour not a standard colour so bit of a grey area.
Would hate to have it turned down for rego because of the paint.

Another thing is Im looking at is the brakes and its drums all round at the moment.
To save me a day in google, can anyone tell me what was available in brakes for the year. Front disc only ?
What should I be replacing my existing brakes with ?
Bearing in mind it has to be original for rego.

chopmgw..........These are the questions you ought to be asking the guys down at Regency Park. Mate a little time spent now enquiring could save a lot of drama later on.........Looking great too by the way. I bet your pleased with how much youve got done in a fairly short amount of time. ps. All Ford Cruise coming up on the 28th up to the Birdwood Mill....you should come.

These are the questions you ought to be asking the guys down at Regency Park.

I know and fully intend to do so before painting or changing anything. I have a heap of questions for them.
My priority is getting the body in good order but Im looking ahead and trying to get some info on what was standard in 68 so I can go from there.
I get sick of googling everything.
Was just hoping someone in the know could point me  in the right direction regarding the brakes.
I might catch u up at Birdwood on the 28th Dale.

The most important thing about disc brakes in a 67/68 is to make sure you get the correct power brake pedal and booster setup. The correct pedal is longer and hinges from the very top of the pedal box.  check out Mustang Steve for details. Also get the correct booster as it will make your install easy.  Then I would use XF spindles and disc brakes.

Well time for an update, just in case u thought the noob had given up.
Been slow progress but have been saving bickies to renew the front/rear suspension.
Ive learnt a lot since starting this project and after removing the suspension and steering gear, I have a better understanding of how this all works.
I have bought control arms,spring saddles,insulators ,tie rod bushes,sway bar bushes,rear shackle/eye bushes etc.

There isnt really anything else that can be taken off the car.
Forgive the sh#tty pics from the iphone.
The diff.

Noob question.
Is this a 9 inch diff ?
Do the numbers on it mean anything ?

Due to a lack (and cost) of a rotissere, the car is on a hoist and tires at the the moment to make work on the underside a bit easier.

The undercarriage has all been resealed, had deadener put on and primed up ready for a shot of black gloss.

Note how the etch primer has not stuck to the roof.
This was because I had the roof soda blasted.
I have been told this is because the sufrace is too fine for the paint to get hold. Also been told its because it wasnt cleaned properly before spraying the etch primer on.
Whatever the reason, it needs sanding back again.

The engine bay is also ready for a shot of black satin.

So soon Im going to be reaching the bit of a milestone that Ive been looking forward to.
The time when sh#t starts going back ON the car. :)

Well the noob is still going.
Finally got the car back here now and its nice sitting down looking at it and trying to visualize (over a beer or two) what the old girl will finally look like.

New brake /fuel lines fitted.

Have been taking photos of all the bits and pieces Ive been cleaning up.
So that I can see a before/after scenario when this is all finished.
To remember all the hours spent in the mancave.
This might only be a headlight bucket to u guys but this is a noob trophy !

Seriously, I never imagined how many small separate parts there is to clean up on a car. Not sure I would ever attempt this again.
Took some dirty/rusted parts(bonnet hinges/latch/support,bumper supports etc) to the sand blasters last week and was amazed at how sparkling clean they came up.
Saved me days of work and cost me $50
Gotta love it.

Need to try and learn some body preparation now and try to get her ready for paint.
So much to learn.

Update time.
Noob plodding on.
Well wasnt the 5 day Easter break terrific for working on the car !
Got a fair bit of work done on my babe.

Bought myself a mini sandblaster and now its sh#t easy to clean up those small bits.
Saved me quite a bit of time.
Cleaned up all the heater box and vent and put a foam seal kit through it.
Window reulators/runners all cleaned up and repainted/cleaned.
Each bit I have to pull apart and clean up is like a new chapter.
Really learning all this for the first time.
Finding out what it is/how it works (and how to restore it).
Gotta say that it gives me a good feeling knowing every single part on this car intimately !

My list of parts required continues to grow but after seeing what a difference a new bit of bling makes, Im content to fork out the extra money.
An example from Good Friday.

Old.

New.

Love it when u get a win.

Wow! What a difference.

It is coming up a treat, and the blaster is a bloody good idea.

Andy is at the stage where it might pay you to drop in and see the blocking back of the Mach1. Lots of progress there too.

Still plugging along here.
Had the seat frames to the sand blasters this week. Then gave a coat of paint
when they came back.
Came up pretty good. They are off to the upholsterer as soon as the buns arrive.
The covers came last week.
Cant be arsed learning about upholstery when I need to learn so much other stuff.

Been trying to learn the art of blocking back.
Never done anything like this before and a lot of info on the web is confusing/contradicting.
Been using a Protec 2K hi fill primer.
This is after a 180 grit pass.
Looking for any input from the painters on here.
Am I going back too far or not enough?

Garage is looking like a pig sty !

And what do u think of the progress so far ?
