b) Unpaid Signature Advertising.

I was warned about having my band website in my signature.

I'm a member of many forums and no music forum has a problem with it.

I understand the rules and am fine with it. My signature was just that, a signature, an identity, letting people know who I am and what I'm passionate about not so much as 'go out and buy our CD'.

Those who know anyone in an Aus. band playing original music will know it's very rare to make a living out of it.  For me it's a hobby and I'm happy just to have people give the music a listen even though I realise it's highly unlikely any person from this forum would even click the link.

Thanks Jas, a well thought out response and one that I will take note of and will certainly be part of the overall review that is being undertaken by the various State Executive Committees.

I have as much information as others on that point so I guess I am entitled to voice my opinion just as much as anyone else here.

Firstly, I think at the beginning of this thread there was advice that the State Execs have till some time in June to come back.  We need to allow that to happen.

2 the banner adds - across the top and bottom can be very lucrative to MOCA.  I would suggest a minimum 5 or 10 grand PA and might be five or ten times that amount given the volume of traffic on the site.  That will mean probably a Shannons or LSV or similar size enterprise taking up the sponsorship.  That certainly pays a lot of our costs of running the site and the Forum.

3 We are also fortunate enough to have good membership support and therefore perhaps not so hungry for the dollar.  Personally I would rather see NO advertisements. I would cop the banner ads but turn my nose up on the pop ups and similar annoying things that can occur - we simply do not need the antagonism of such items.

4 Without the forum members, this place will not exist so, the members have the loudest voice when it comes to what happens here (that is my view).

5 There are some members here who do/did slip an add in their signature but offered advice freely, without expectation of reward and were quite legitimate in their support of the forum.  There were others that managed to be continual posters designed to get their name before members on every occasion possible and I did find them to be nearly as bad as pop ups.

I ask the question as to how to differentiate between them, promote the first type and bury the second type??  I do not agree with a charge being levied.  Perhaps we just accept both of the types - with a proviso that those advertisements in the signature area do not carry a graphic and they must be a MOCA member (my thoughts and I may be shouted down).

6 Yes, we had everyone remove their adverts - simply because it was against the rules and those that did advertise were doing so without permission.  Maybe a trivial thing but to those that did obey the rules, it was totally unfair.  Hence, a review of advertising rules being undertaken now.

Great to have input from members, keep it coming.

Thanks.

Phil

One suggestion I have would be to maybe limit signatures to text only so that people can still put in a signature but without it being a link or a banner ad?

That way you save on space and if anyone really wants to proceed to check out the signature they have to digress away from the forum and place the text into an address bar or search engine?

I find it intriguing that with the length of time this discussion has been going, that there has been no contact from MOCA.  Tell me I'm stupid if you like, but given the nature of the discussion, and its implications, I would have thought MOCA would have made formal contact with those here that clearly have commercial interests a long time ago.  To me, that would force an 'official' response from the businesses here, that would give substance to the discussions held at the MOCA meetings, good hard solid data with which people can make decisions.

I look forward to my future mail from MOCA :+

Cheers
Jas[/quote]

Good luck Jas, I expressed dissatifaction too and requested further info from  'nationaldelegate1@mustang.org.au' back in April and as yet have heard nothing.

Quite dissapointing.

By the way I appreciate the invaluable information provided by yourself and many other members on this forum.

Perhaps its is the rules regarding commercial advetising that should be changed not the format. What we had was unintrusive and informative. JMO.

Just a thought.

Hi moe....oops , I mean everyone. Unless something already exists , can we maybe form a thread that contains names/numbers of Mustang parts sellers around Aust. to give everyone a quick reference of places to ring. Would be wildly convenient to find everyone on 1 page with phone numbers & state location so shopping around wouldn`t be a time consuming task. Surely I`m missing a lot of sellers that I & probably many others don`t know about.
  Hopefully this doesn`t sound absurd.

LOL  for moe :hi:;

What if we start off by listing all the suppliers we are aware of:

Capital Classics

NOS Mustang Supplies

Early Pony Parts

Boss Kraft

Custom Mustangs

East Coast Mustang and Camaro

Shermatt

Mustangs West...

Trick is how do you group them?  Not all sell new parts, not all sell used parts, some sell both, some sell cars, what region and who supports MOCA, the owners of the site??

But looking at it from the angle of blokes who own Stangs & are members of a club that share a common interest , can`t we look past the political side of things & like a notice board at the clubhouse , have somewhere we can go & quickly identify Qld, NSW , VIC etc & have names/numbers. Wether they support the club or not , it`s damn handy for all of us . I`ll still probably ring Stephan & Salva & the likes 1st anyway but if they don`t have stock or exactly what we want , we can quickly source it elsewhere.

True; and there are a number of sponsors listed in the club mag as well.
Dick Israel springs to mind, but he isn't mentioned on here at all on the forum.

Qld: Mustang Auto Parts  (07)33994189 http://www.mustangautoparts.com.au

Some guru can help compile where to store this info. within the website & how to sort into different states , maybe a note of new/2nd hand but a quick phone call from us consumers would soon work that out.

Maybe just put a small story next to each one.

I sell & Stock 64-73 Repro parts, and a lot of Restomod stuff. Next to no used parts, unless it's from my personal collection. I ship Australia Wide, and International (Sold a few parts into NZ and Malaysia). If I don't have it, I can get it, and I specialise in special prices for large orders (I usually beat Mustangs Unlimited on a delivered price).

I like that idea BLKPNY  :agree:

What if it was outside the forum on the main MOCA page?  all the sponsors listed with a spiel on what they offer at a central location???

It just seems a little daunting to the newbie about where to phone & I`m in the trade!! I wouldn`t like to see it be subject to critics saying "don`t buy from there , he`s a tosser" . Thats for us to work out & keep to ourselves..... to be fair & gentlemanly.

I'm not a sponsor yet, because I don't want an ad in the magazine, and MOCA havn't come to an agreement on what to do here, dispite CPU's great efforts.

But you`re paid up & offer great amounts of info, advice , & a few chuckles. There`s bucket loads of respect just there. It`s what being in a club is all about. Lots of us will use you purely based on that - like word of mouth in a small town.

The easiest way is as suggested get all the people that we are aware of that sells mustang parts etc write a small piece about what they sell and just have a single thread which is locked and cant comment on and CPU just updates it as more come to the table list them however we want in either region or new parts or old etc some places sell both so i think region would make more sense i dono just my 2cents

Hello lads.

Thanks for your kind words there BLKPNY. :thumb:

I'm going to move this to the thread on "Commercial Advertising."

We have done a mock up of what we think would work, spoken to one or two members in the background to get their feel of what we were proposing and they liked it, we then put it before the powers that be in MOCA and they have taken it under advisement.

We have been told that the powers that be are watching the comments here so they can make an informed decision but until they do our hands here in the engine room of the forum are tied.

Anyhow I'll just merge this with the original "Commercial advertising " thread.

Kind Regards
CPU

Thanks CPU ( if that is your real name:rub:). Even if this list is not looked at as "Advertising" , rather , a "suppliers list" since really all that is needed is names & numbers, advertising not necessary. Maybe this may make the idea more appealing . It would be just so helpful to know where to shop without spending hours of research & still missing many.
  Thanks for considering.

I understood that under forum rules commercial advertising was currently not permitted on the forum pending a policy review on advertising.

It seems that it is ok for a tiny number of commercial sellers to continue though whilst all others strictly comply with the rules.  It's quite blatant.

I guess in that case it's ok for anyone now.  If not then maybe dual standards now apply.

First example:
This company's a "private seller".  I think not.

http://mustang.org.au/forum/viewthread.php?tid=11410

------------------------------------------

I really don't care that much one way or the other but it's tough luck for all those that we all see strictly adhering to the advertising  code.
