Dont mind the burgandy one...will add that one to the list!!

The Aqua one,  I've already seen and spoken to Manny Cool (the owner of the dealership) about it, ....it needs new top,  guts of the air con have been ripped out (I'd say the compressor was shaged) I already know I can pick that one up for much less $2-3K ...so still considering it as an option.

Are you guys seriously saying it will cost more than $9-10K max .... to ship one here including all other associated costs. I find that very hard to swollow if true!!

Ed

Approx:

Ship from USA $3,500.00
Shipping Insurance $350
GST $2000
Rego 12 months Qld $950
Lo2 $1200
Insurance $350

Total: $8350

These are just to name a few of the costs.

Usually works out at about AU$5K plus the duty etc, so by allowing AU10K would be reasonable.

My last 2 containers have cost me over AU12K each from San Francisco to Sydney inc cost this end (transport to my home etc).

I did not pay any duty at all in that figure as I am a "returning resident" & had owned all the cars & equipment for years. They were both 40' Hi Cube containers & I had used all the space inside.

I still have another container to come later this year (will have my F100 & B2 in it) & that will complete the move. There was no room for my stuff in the one that is due next week.

Struth Kerry,

Not that I hope the hunt lasts that long, but if there’s room in your other container, I'm sure we could work out a deal??

:w:w

Look also what I should say here is the price is flexible but there's got to be a starting point. $30K is what I hope to get out of it for....but need to see what Matt can uncover first.

Speaking of Matt, he's gone all quite over the past few days, might give him a ring to see how he's going. Ya gotta love AAPT only cost $1.90 for a 2 hr call to the USA. Man I remember the days when Telstra (Telecom) would have charge you a weeks pay packet for a 2 hr call!! :a:p

He did his back in last week...Think this might be the reason why I haven’t had any replies to me emails?? Hope his OK!

Cheers,

Ed

65 Muzzy,

I'm hearing you!!

5 years time, I’ll probably be doing either a re-spray on it or buying another one and god knows what else...???

But then again, one of the kids should be of me hands by then, the missus will hopefully still be in the same house as me and so on ...........just gotta live for the moment I reckon!!!

My philosophy is: every day I wake up is a bonus

Fatkid been on the road mate....and takin care of other peoples parts orders etc

Friday and Sat we canned going to Cali and headed to Miami to pick up a 71 429 J code instead. (the drive home KILLED the back)

Sunday I had to clean out all the mustang parts that I had in the far corner as the council sent me a nasty letter and I had to remove my 56 Chevy pick up with that 454 in it.....gave it to my new painter guy for a paint job on my monaro...so that worked out well

Doing emails and import approvals ALL DAY TODAY ;]

Think the red one was a scam. sent em 10 emails and 5 of them were on top of each other...go figure

Seach will continue today

Patiance will pay off...it allways does :(

This all sounds to familar to me.After a very long 4 years I finally got my own 68 convertibe 2 weeks ago.Spent much time looking on the internet, magazines, ebay etc.I was getting frustrated and then decided to try and importand started to check out sites in th U.S.Seemed to be some good cars for around $25us.I set my budget at $32 aus registered and in my driveway.I figured on spending $22us on the car to achieve this.I started talking to Matt (Shermatt) and he was on the hunt for me.Then I found that 68vert on carsales, the blue one  at Coal Point.Even better than in the photos, negotiated a price and Hey presto she's in my garage and haven't stopped smiling since Easter. My experience has taught me a few things,be patient.Photos can tell lies, check the car out in person,it is your hard earned that is buying the car and may just save you from a nightmare.I personally now 2 guys who relied on the internet and photos to end up doubling and tripling there buy price thinking they were importing agreat cars.Matt has a very good reputation and I can't see him finding you any junk.In the end finding a restored to original,2 owner car, that is all ready N.S.W.registered was worth going over my budget  a little for.Good luck, great choice of model.

Rock 65,

Good to know, I’ve budgeted $10K so that should do it then. Just need to find the right car!! :(

I assume that was inclusive of your GST component in shipping and purchase of the car??

Was speaking to Matt last night…Was a very funny call...anyway he has indicated patience is needed to track down a good one, not many good 68"s around at the moment though ...heaps of 64 - 66 though ... must be just because I want a 68!! :+

Anyway I’m sure he'll come through with a real gem eventually......just gives me more time to get the garage sorted out as it's resemble a warehouse for my work at the moment. Which is really pi55ing me off. ::

My Car was $22500USD. Obviously the more you spend the higher the GST component will be. As long as you know what you are up for before you start then it wont come as a surprise. Keep your options open and look everywhere for a car. Good luck with the search.

Hooray my hunt is over at last,

Matt did say…..”Buddy, patience pays off in the long run” and how true is that!!

For all those that maybe interested, Matt & Sheri (Shermatt) have in our opinion, come through with the goods – man I’m stoked …these guys are just great. The lengths they go to for their client is very reassuring as it can be a daunting process, parting with the hard earned and wishing for the best…under normal circumstances the average guy would never really consider doing so these days with all the scammers around!!

OK so, what did they find for me,
Well it’s a “partially restored 1968 Mustang “J code” convertible” in not too bad shape at all. On you tube if you want a look just type in Shermattamerica (one word) you can’t miss it from there guys.

The good, :f:f

1.   $18.500.00US  purchase price!!
2.   J Code – what a bonus!!
3.   Has new paint job, (love the colour – she’s Red  ...Should make it go faster…LOL)
4.   Newly fitted  top
5.   Deluxe interior in great condition for its age!!
6.   302 motor has had some recent work with approximately 6000 miles on it since being done.
7.   Sounds pretty damn sweet _ mind you Matt’s driving leaves a lot to be desired – only kidding buddy!!

The Bad.  ;]
1.   Has a little bit of cancer in the cowling vents and one rear qtr maybe a bit suss?
2.   The windscreen has a bit of a sizable chip out of it. (See a new one being shipped here with the car maybe?)
3.   Engine bay and undercarriage needs a good clean up and repaint.
4.   Now the wait to get her home where she belongs.
5.   Well need to install an air conditioner in her – not that I mined at all!!

Just a few minor things tidying it up a bit, but nothing we can’t handle over a few weekends and a few cartons of Corona’s with the boys.

Guys, I’ll let to clips on you tube speak for themselves, and we’ll post many more photos as they come to hand.

The car is back at Matt’s stable, getting ready to be transported out hopefully next week from Tampa Bay to LA, en-route to Brisvagas

For all those doubters out there on the current costs out of the USA, let me just say, they have come in under my original budget with this little gem. We couldn’t be happier!!

so at the price we acquired this car for,  I think proves the USA market is feeling the pain and you can land a “very good deal in a daily driver” for under $30k if you have the right people on it and are willing to be patient in finding a good one…………..Man I’m stoked!!

It’s better than I ever expected, it may not be a show car yet, but who knows down the track someday maybe – either way, I don’t care, coz it’s finally mine!!

I really do want to publicly express my sincere appreciation for what Shermatt have done for us. So Matt & Sheri …..Massive big thanks and hugs…you guys are fantastic and honest in your dealings. Having you there on the ground working for me in this process did take a lot of the stress out of the whole ordeal and your video inspections are a great way of connecting with your clients in the process of the purchase as if we were actually there too!!

Nice score Grumpy One!

If you want a/c in it, why not get one shipped over in the 'vert?  Ozbilt indicated the a/c kit he was suggesting weighed about 40kgs.  can be pricey to ship, but if your vert is coming over anyway, why not save a few $$ and ship the lot at once?

Yeh Mo you probably right, just need to see if we have anough time to do a bit of shopping before she leaves Florida. Matt said he was going to do up a bit of a shopping list for me if we have enough time so I'm all for saving a few bucks here and there.

Got to say, now I dont feel like a bit of a wanker not having a pony and being a member of this forum. Now I guess I've just been elevated to a wanker who has a pony and is a member of the forum :+:+:(
